The sites at a glance

1. Bwindi impenetrable forest

Due to the reduction of the wild animals in Uganda's parks in the 1970's and 1980's, Ugandas' tourism industry reduced tremendously and lost the revenue from tourism to Kenya and Tanzania. As a result, Uganda then forcused more on the thick tropical forests of Bwindi and mgahinga. Here you find more than half of the world's mountain Gorillas. You will also be able to see other primate species like colombus monkeys and chimpanzees. The mountain gorillas are incredible and their way of life is closer to man's than any other primates in the world.

You should be among the few people in the world to have a look at these gentle giants.



2. Kidepo valley

Among all national parks in Uganda, Kidepo is the farthest, located in the north eastern corner or the horn of Uganda. Though it is very far, this park is the most magnificent. With its rolling plains, savanna grasslands, woodland,seasonal rivers, swamps and its very beautiful sunset and sunrise, it ranked as one of the best national parks in Africa. 
Among the animals you will not miss include; lions, cheetah, buffalo herds, leopards, elephants, giraffes, impala, antelopes etc. The park also has over 200 bird species. If you are touring Uganda, a drive to this park is worthwhile.









3. Queen elizabeth national park

This park is designated as a Biosphere nature reserve for Humanity by UNESCO. The park is about 2050 sq km and it found in the rift valley region in west of the country.
The geography of the park ranges from thick forests, woodland and savanna to lakes like
Edward and George.
This as a result forms an enormous habitat for a variety of wildlife and birds.
Queen Elizabeth national park is well known for its tree climbing lions, elephants, the Ugandan Kob, baboons, buffaloes, lepoards, Chimps, giraffes, topi etc.
The park also blessed with over 500 bird species among which include king fishers, the endemic shoebill stork, African fish eagle, flamingoes etc.
In order to have a good look at the animals, you are ferried on the kazinga Channel which connects lake edward and george.




4. Murchison falls national park

Murchison falls is the largest park in Uganda. It covers an area of 3877 sq km. As you move closer to these spectacular falls, you are welcomed by the ever growing roar as the water from the river plunges through a gorge splattering on the rocks and finally conceding into gentle rapids downstream.
The river habors variety of wildlife including hippos, crocodiles and several species of birds.
The park is also blessed with wildlife like lions, giraffes, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, antelopes like waterbucks, kobs, etc.
The waterfalls, wildlife, flora, and the birds form the Murchison falls national park.







5. Nile water rafting


Water rafting is a growing sport in Uganda today. Just a few kilometers from jinja town, the serenity and the sound of the birds and the roars welcome you to the exhilarating water rapids of the nalubale. The thrill you get by seeing those on the inflated boats and the excitement of those on the boats makes you want to join on the next available rafting crew. 

In case you want to have this experience, make sure you pay a visit to these falls you will not regret.


6. Lake Mburo National park

This is the smallest park in Uganda and its about 370 sq km. It is only a 4hr from Kampala, therefore, it is the nearest to people around kampala and nearby districts. The park has a wide area of wetland and also its wildlife is concetrated around lake mburo. Some of the animals you will not miss here are; impalas, waterbucks, zebras, wathogs, bufalloes
giraffes, topis, leopards, baboons, and several others.
The park is also blessed with variety of bird species and butterfly. You will also have a boat cruise on lake mburo and this is the best way to have a view of the Hippos, crocodiles, and birds such as the african fish eagle.





7. Kibale national park

In Africa, you will not find concentration of primate species like what you will find here
in Kibale forest. Here you will find over 13 species of primates which include the
chimpanzees, L'Hoest, colobus monkeys, Pottos etc.
The park is also a habitat for various bird species and butterflies. For those interested in
forest and nature walks, this is the perfect place for you.
If you decide to have a tour at this place, you will not only give revenue to the Government,
but also the local people who do a great job by protecting these endangered species.



8. The big five


Have you ever wondered what the African big five are, maybe you have seen documentary on the 
discovery channel.
However if you want to see these animals first hand, then Uganda is the best place for you.
These animals are Lions, Elephants, Rhinos, leopards, and the african buffalo. Uganda's parks 
like queen elizabeth, Murchison falls and Kidepo valley will provide you the chance to have 
a glimpse at these animals.
You should boast of having seen these animals which you can only find in Africa.

9. Mountain Rwenzori park


The Rwenzori mountains are the highest in Uganda and one of the highest in Africa with margherita peak at a height of 5109m and Alexandra at a height of 5083m.
The vegetation as you move up the mountains varries from thick bushes, thick tropical forests, woods to no vegetation at all. This diversity in vegetation makes these mountains a habitat for variety of wildlife, birds and butterflies making it a goldmine for eco tourism and scentific research.
Some of the animals you will see include elephants, monkeys, chimps, antelopes and several others.
If you are to climb this mountain, prepare for a streneous journey, but when you reach the
summit, you will be amazed by the beautiful scenery and the serenity, though it is cold due
to the snow on the summit.

10. Mountain elgon

This mountain borders kenya in the east of the country. It is the second highest mountain in Uganda. However, though it is high, it is very easy to climb. The vegetation along the mountain is mostly thick tropical forest which is a habitat for wildlife like elephants, monkeys, birds, rodents which are mostly found in the several caves found on the mountain.
The main attraction are the sippi falls on sippi river located at about 1,775m.
The best period to climb the mountains is December to April, june to August, however november to december is good due to the flowering of the plants.


11. River Nile

Who doesn't want to boast of being one of the few people to have had a look at the world's longest river! Uganda is is the best place to have a great look at this great river since its source is found here. What you expect to see on your tour are the several water falls on the river which include murchison falls, karuma falls, bujagali and various water rapids like
nalubale rapids where white water rafting is experienced.
Various exciting activities take place on this river and these include; fishing, water rafting, diving, swimming, bungee jumping.
The river is also a perfect place for eco tourism since it passes through forests, swamps, woods and dryland in the north of the country. Scientists would love this river for its several acuatic species.

12. Lake Victoria


When you look at the map of Africa, you will not miss that big water body in the middle of
east africa. This lake is the largest in Africa and only second to lake superior in the whole world.

With its enormous size, it serves as the source of livelyhood for the people in countries of Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Sudan, Dr Congo, and Egypt. The lake is a source of fish like Tilapia, nile perch, lungfish and several others and this is a great opportunity for those who like sport fishing.
The lake is also the source of the Nile river which is the worlds longest river.
It also has several beautiful islands which is a perfect place for a holiday and relaxation.
A boat cruise on the lake and also a visit of some of the beaches along the lake is recommended.
